Here is another great talk by Sir Ken Robinson. Having a child who has chosen to go to a technical school rather than a four year college (because it is the best way for him to pursue his passion for auto mechanics), I really appreciate Sir Ken's thoughts on kids and college.

How To Crack A Whip

We started the day studying about Australia. As often happens, one thing led to another, and we ended up somewhere completely different. You gotta love those home school rabbit trails.

This afternoon, we spent a ridiculous amount of time learning about how to crack a whip. I'm not sure what the practical application is of this knowledge, given that we don't live on a cattle ranch and Harrison Ford pretty much has the market cornered when it comes to whip cracks in movie sound tracks and Jimmy Buffett songs, but we learned about it, anyway.

This is an excellent "How To" video on whip cracking. My kids found it quite interesting and entertaining. Now Thing 3 wants a whip for Christmas.

Conjunction, Junction, What's Your Function?

Since I am a child of the 70s and early 80s, when Shurley said it was time to learn about conjunctions and interjections, you just know I had to pull out my Schoolhouse Rock! DVD.

Anti Social: A Comedy of Homeschoolers

I don't know why, but this video makes me literally LOL! People spend an inordinate amount of time worrying that home schoolers are raising social misfits. Like I tell everyone who expresses their concern for my children in that regard...my children were weird before I took them out of school.  And I mean that in the nicest way. 

Home School Summer

Right now I'm thoroughly enjoying not mourning the end of summer vacation with my younger children. Even though I love shopping for school supplies, I used to get this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach around this time every year when I walked into Target and saw the school supplies. I'm so looking forward to Home School Summer with them. I just wish I could have it with my older boys, too, but they would run away if I suggested pulling them out of school (and away from their friends) at this point. I really can't blame them.
